Captains Courageous by Rudyard Kipling is an adventure novel about hardship, friendship, responsibility, and personal growth. The story follows Harvey Cheyne, a spoiled and wealthy American teenager who falls overboard from an ocean liner and is rescued by the crew of a fishing schooner. Forced to work alongside the fishermen during a difficult voyage, Harvey gradually learns the value of discipline, cooperation, and honest labor. Under the guidance of the experienced Captain Disko Troop and his son Dan, he begins to understand the responsibilities that come with adulthood and privilege. Set against the dangerous waters of the North Atlantic, the novel combines vivid descriptions of life at sea with a compelling coming-of-age story about character, resilience, and the transformation of a privileged young man.
