Politics by Aristotle is a foundational work of political philosophy examining the nature of the state, citizenship, government, law, and the conditions necessary for a good society. Building on his ethical ideas, Aristotle argues that human beings are naturally social and political creatures who achieve their full potential within a community. He analyzes different forms of government, including monarchy, aristocracy, and constitutional government, as well as their corrupt counterparts, and considers how political systems can be organized and preserved. Aristotle also discusses citizenship, education, the family, property, social classes, and the relationship between political institutions and human virtue. Drawing on observations of Greek city-states and earlier political thinkers, he combines theoretical analysis with practical considerations of governance. Written in the fourth century BC, Politics became one of the most influential works in the history of political thought and continues to shape discussions of government, citizenship, and civic life.
