The Mystery of the Yellow Room by Gaston Leroux is a classic French detective novel built around a seemingly impossible crime. The story begins when Mathilde Stangerson is violently attacked inside a locked room in her father’s secluded château, yet the assailant appears to have escaped from a room with no apparent exit. Young journalist and amateur detective Joseph Rouletabille takes up the investigation, determined to uncover the truth through careful observation and logical reasoning. As the inquiry progresses, he encounters conflicting evidence, hidden identities, suspicious characters, and increasingly puzzling clues. Leroux combines the traditional locked-room mystery with suspense, adventure, and psychological intrigue, challenging both the characters and the reader to explain how the crime could have been committed. Filled with unexpected revelations and ingenious deductions, The Mystery of the Yellow Room is regarded as one of the classic masterpieces of detective fiction.
