The Iron Heel by Jack London is a dystopian political novel exploring class conflict, revolution, capitalism, and the struggle for social equality. The story is presented through the memoirs of Avis Everhard, whose husband, Ernest Everhard, becomes a passionate socialist leader opposing the growing power of an authoritarian corporate oligarchy known as the Iron Heel. As economic inequality deepens and democratic institutions are increasingly suppressed, the couple becomes involved in an underground revolutionary movement. Combining political speculation, romance, and social criticism, London imagines a future in which concentrated economic power develops into open political tyranny. The novel offers a provocative examination of labor, inequality, propaganda, political repression, and the struggle between individual freedom and authoritarian power.
