E. M. Forster (1879–1970) was an English novelist, essayist, and literary critic, best known for his insightful exploration of class, social conventions, personal relationships, and the conflict between society and individual freedom. Born in London, Forster studied at King's College, Cambridge, where he became part of the intellectual circle known as the Bloomsbury Group. His early travels through Europe and later journeys to India greatly influenced his writing. Among his best-known novels are Where Angels Fear to Tread, The Longest Journey, A Room with a View, Howards End, and A Passage to India. Forster's novels often examine the barriers created by social class, cultural differences, and rigid conventions. His clear and understated style combines social observation with a strong emphasis on human connection and personal integrity. Although he published his last novel, A Passage to India, in 1924, he continued to write essays, literary criticism, and other works throughout his long life. He is now regarded as one of the significant English novelists of the twentieth century.
