Xenophon (c. 430–354 BC) was an ancient Greek historian, soldier, and writer whose works provide valuable insights into Greek society, warfare, and leadership. Born in Athens, he became a soldier and took part in the famous expedition of the Ten Thousand Greek mercenaries, an experience he later described in his celebrated work Anabasis. Xenophon wrote extensively on history, philosophy, politics, and military affairs. His other notable works include Hellenica, a history of Greece, Cyropaedia, an account of the life of Cyrus the Great, and Memorabilia, which presents recollections of Socrates. Known for his clear and straightforward style, Xenophon remains an important source for the study of ancient Greece and one of the most influential writers of classical antiquity.
